This Month:
July

July is a month of celebration and fireworks! Keep that in mind when it comes to your pet. Many animals can be overwhelmed with the loud noises of large crowds and fireworks, they may even have nervous or destructive behaviors which may be abnormal compared to their usual behaviors. If your pet is nervous during fireworks (or you expect they might be), here are a few tips and tricks to help them feel more comfortable.
1. Keep your pet in a safe space such as a room with a door which can be closed off (bedroom or bathroom) or even their kennel.
2. Make sure they are supplied with food and water, (a litter box for cats) and put their blanket or bedding in the room with them, some pets may feel the need to hide. You can also play some music or turn on the t.v. which can be calming to some pets.
3. If you will be home with your pet, make sure to stay calm and reassuring. If you give off nervous energy, your pet will sense that and may react.
4. Let them know everything is okay and try to distract them with their favorite toy, games, or a couple treats. Hiding treats around the room can be a great way to keep your pet focused on something other than what is going on outside.
5. Leash walk your dog outside to go to the bathroom, even if they usually go outside without a leash. If you have a fenced in yard, check for any weak spots in the fence where your dog may escape if frightened.
6. Make sure your pet has up-to-date tags and microchip information. If you would like to get your pet microchipped, please contact our clinic. This is a simple process which can help reunite you and your pet if they were to get lost and it can be done at any time.
7. If you know your pet gets severely stressed and anxious and needs a little extra medical intervention during this time of year, please contact us and our veterinarian can prescribe a medication option which best suits your pet's needs.
8. If you have any questions or would like a consultation on what would be best for YOUR pet, please call our office at (906)786-1878.

**Make sure your pet is current on their flea and tick and heartworm preventatives to keep them safe and protected year round. Contact us today or order them online by clicking on the My VetStore Online button below.**
